OKIDOKI의 호주 이야기

Hey Queenslanders, yes, no more ridiculous ambulance levy on your electricity bill from July this year. By the way, when did I miss the flyer?

야호 신난다. 드디어 앰뷸런스 레비가 전기세에서 빠지는구나.

Community Ambulance Cover Levy

Government removes ambulance levy from electricity bills

Between 1 July 2003 and 30 June 2011, the Community Ambulance Cover levy was charged on electricity bills in Queensland to provide funding towards the Queensland Ambulance Service. Exemptions applied to certain accounts and account holders including pensioners and senior card holders.

From 1 July 2011, Queenslanders are no longer required to pay the levy—a saving of $112.98. The government now funds the full cost of the ambulance service through its annual budget.

Electricity account holders should have received a flyer explaining the change.

Do I still have the same high level of ambulance cover?

Yes. All Queensland residents will enjoy free ambulance cover throughout Australia.

What if I was exempt from the levy?

You will continue to receive free ambulance cover.

I was eligible for an exemption but never applied. Is it too late to apply for an exemption?

You can still submit an exemption application form with your electricity retailer or electricity provider up to 30 June 2012. If you are eligible for an exemption, you may be entitled to a refund of any levy paid in the past 12 months. Any refund entitlement will be dependent on both the date that you became entitled to an exemption and the date an application is made.

What should I do if my electricity account still has the Community Ambulance Cover levy on it?

If the levy has been charged for days after 1 July 2011, please contact your electricity retailer or electricity provider.
